School had seemed to go on forever today. It's like the teachers went on and on with no end in monotonous tones. She felt as if it was never going to end, and that she'd be sucked into never-ending boredom. Okay, well, maybe that's just a little bit over dramatic. It's the way she felt though. The teachers were always yelling at her and taking away her sketchbook. Apparently you weren't supposed to draw during never ending lectures. It's not like she ever did anything to the teachers. She was always quiet and in the back of the classroom since nobody ever bothered to talk to her. Nobody in school liked her. They all just starred and called her a freak. On her first day, someone even threatened to beat her up for bumping into them. People were cruel and mean. It made her wonder if she was a monster like that in the life she couldn't remember. She hoped not.
Sighing, Namine sat under a tree in the school yard near the doors. Even though she didn't want to be in school, she didn't really have anything else to do. It was either stay here or go home to here lonely apartment with her pet turtle. Since it was a nice day out, the school yard won. At least here there was a good scene to draw.
Pulling her sketchbook out of the white backpack she threw down next to her, she opened it slowly. There was no need to rush. Since the government hadn't required her to get a job while being in school, she had all the time in the world. Welfare paid for everything she owned. It made her feel a bit greedy, but at least it kept things simple for her. Trying to remember her past was stressful enough.
Namine took a deep sigh and looked up toward the sky. The cloud where beautiful and feather like, devouring almost all of the blue there was. She liked it that way. White was her favorite color. It fascinated her.

Most people believed that once school was out, kids would be running amok. That is usually the case, and even here at this specific school. Once that bell rings kids go running out of their rooms and pour out of the halls to head home. However, one student always calmly left the school and walked away from the campus walls. His left hand thumb was stuck in his pocket and the rest of his hand hung from the side of his leg. In his other hand was his notebooks and homework.
He stopped and gazed into the sky. A sigh escaped from his lips as he looked around. He never really talked to anyone unless it was necessary of him to do so. Keeping to himself is all this young man does. His attention was focused on what he could possibly do in his remaining time before he went to work. After all, he does have his own place, even though the land lord would rather him no pay her, he still does.
"Riku!"
There was that awful shrill of a voice that left a chill on Riku's spine. It was one of the girls from a group that usually followed him around school. He really didn't want to be stuck with them during his short off time. Trying to quickly think of what to do -which was either run or stay- he spotted a lone girl under a tree beside the doors of the school. He noticed her around the campus, but she, like him was quiet. She kept to herself and drew most of the day.
Riku decided against it, but he really wasn't in the mood for screeching banshees. He jogged over to the girl and waved slightly.
"Hey, I don't mean to be rude, but would you mind if I sat here for a bit? I'm kinda avoiding the hoard behind me."
Riku let out sort of a chuckle as he spoke of the other girls. It's not that he didn't like anyone, it's just that school girls can be so awfully annoying.

Namine’s attention broke from her drawing when a she noticed a boy coming outside the school. For some reason, she always starred at people while they pasted. It was a bad and weird habit that she needed to stop. There were a few perky looking girls following behind him. It almost seemed like he was trying to get away. She let out a small giggle to herself.
She recognized him from a class or two. He never really seemed to be hanging out with anyone, but people were always near him. Well, most girls were always around him. Plus, she heard many girls always bringing him up, talking about how they were going to get him. They spoke about his hot body and everything else that had to do with them. It was like they had no minds what-so-ever. It was always “Riku this” and “Riku that”. It what amazing just how much some people could come up with to say about a single person.
Receiving a little bit of a wave from the boy, Namine looked behind her in confusion. It took her a while to realize he was talking to her. Nobody ever talked to her. She was invisible at school, but she sort of liked it that way. It was easier to keep out of gossip and drama when nobody even knew your name.
“Umm, sure. Go ahead,” Namine responded, still looking sort of dumbfounded.
She made sure to break her stare once he spoke so she didn’t look too creepy. Someone finally talks to her and she’s on the verge of scaring him away before he even sits down. That’d be so un-cool. It took her a moment to realize that the girls following him probably wouldn’t be to happy. This sort of thing might slam her at the top of their hate list.

"Thanks."
Riku grinned cheerfully and sat down next to her. He pulled out some of his homework from his folders and a pen from his pocket. He only had a little bit of homework left, and it was the subjects he was the worst at. His eyes slowly closed and he hung his head with a sigh. There was some things he was good at, and others he wasn't. Some of which was, math and science.
"Arrggg why do these two subjects suck the most!"
Riku growled quietly to himself. Though, there was nothing he could do so he just ran his left hand through his hair to remove it from his eyes and began to work. His focus was fading, for those banshee girls weren't that far from him, and he could hear their shrill comments. Shaking his head once again, he looked up at the girl.
"Thanks again. But please, don't let them get to you. I'll sort them out tomorrow morning before class. I just really didn't want to deal with them right now. Name's Riku."
Smiling, he held out his right hand to shake the girl's hand. Even though he's seen her around, he never found out her name. He was rather intrigued about this girl. They have never met, but for some reason he felt that she had a familiar warmth about her. It seemed to him that she had a feel that a sister would have.

Namine continued to draw without looking over at him. She hoped she didn’t look nearly as awkward as she felt. She wasn’t used to this. People just weren’t her thing. Everyone was different so you had to act different around everyone. The most complicated part for her was that she never knew how anyone was going to re-act to how strange she was. Plus, her honestly tended to piss most people off. That was a another one of her many qualities that she wished she could ditch.
Noticing the girls still hadn’t left and made sure not to distance themselves to far away from their obsession, Riku, she heard some of the words they spoke. None of them seemed to friendly and she’d defiantly be a target for spit balls and gossip the next day. Just as she was thinking about it, Riku brought it up. It made her feel a little better to know he’d do something about it tomorrow. Sadly, she didn’t really believe they’d listen to what he had to say about it. Just sitting next to the boy was going to put her in the hate book for life no matter what happened. At least having company was nice though.
It wasn’t until her gave her his name that she looked over at him again. He seemed oddly nicer then she would have imagined. He was the kind that she’d label under bad boy. At least, that was the look he seemed to give off. His eyes always seemed focused and dark. It was like they were hiding a secret. The other girls were probably into him because of his eyes. He was defiantly a mystery to her.
“My name’s Namine,” she finally responded.
She worried about sounding stupid. She was quietly for way to long between his speaking. He probably thought she didn’t have a voice or something. It was too easy for her to get lost in her own words. It was yet another habit.

Riku grimaced at the thought of his problem causing subjects. For some reason he could never figure the problems out. He scoffed at the first problem on his math paper. Turning to his science page, he took a quick glance at it before he quickly folded the sheet and pushed it into his folder. Riku leaned back and placed his weight on his hands behind him and sighed.
"I really don't do any good in those courses. They'll be the death of me, I swear."
He quietly spoke to himself as he stared half eyed through the leaves on the tree branches. The sun barely protruded through the small gaps of the tree and beat against his lightly tanned skin. His almost cornflower hair danced in the short breeze. Of all of the kids in the school, only Riku and Namine kept to themselves. Riku just didn't want to get attached to anyone mentally or emotionally. For some reason that feeling caused a sharp pain in his chest.
"So... You live around here?"
Riku asked quizzically. He wasn't meaning to pry or invade in Namine's personal life, he was just curious. He knew a lot about the rest of the students at the school, aside from Namine and a select few other kids. Again, that familiar feeling welled up inside of Riku's body. It warmed his chest, and cooled it at the same time. Often it would annoy him, especially when his heart felt like ice. On the other hand, a feeling like this seemed to ease him in a way.
The reason for Riku being the way he is, is because he can't remember anything from more than about seven months ago. It was if someone had wiped his mind. That's what really pissed him off. He did everything he could at his house during his off time to find anything that could jog his memory. He would research things on the internet, like his name in the missing person's directory. That didn't bring up much answers, but it never stopped him from continuing his search.

Namine listened as Riku muttered some more things about school subjects and problems to himself. She smiled a little to herself when she wondered if he talked to himself often. She wasn’t one to judge though and a lot of people did it. She was extremely strange herself. Talking to ones self was nothing compared to the strangeness of her own nature. She looked over at him when he spoke again. She’d learned it was polite for people to look at each other when speaking: even if no one ever looked at her when they spoke. She had no objectives to that though.
“Yeah…” Namine spoke. “I live in an apartment building not to far from here.”
She made sure not to mention that she lived there by herself. That might make him ask more questions. Having amnesia made her feel like a freak. She didn’t know anything about herself. She had no idea what style of clothes she liked: she guessed white, because that’s what she was wearing when she was found, what kind of food she liked, or what qualities she wanted in a friend. Everything was always so knew to her. The first time she had a cheeseburger her eyes practically popped out of her head, because of how new the taste was. That happened with every new type of food she tried from then on. Knowing how she reacted just made her feel like even more of a freak.
“How about you? Do you live around here?”
Namine decided it would be polite to ask him since he took the time to ask her. She just was hoping she didn’t end up seeming like just another one of those rambling girls that he’d want to run from. She shook her head in disbelief. She was too different to be compared to them. She was awkward and crazy. They were completely normal.

Riku listened intently to Namine as she spoke. Even though his head wasn't facing her, he still kept his eyes on her. It was what he usually did. It didn't matter the person, it's just how he was. As Namine finished speaking, Riku leaned forward and turned to her. Then, she asked where he lived. He smiled slightly and nodded his head. His home wasn't much to talk about. There was no real decor in his apartment, just electronics and food.
"I live in some apartments around this area as well. There's a Sonics next to it, so now I can get to work quickly and always be on time."
A smile crossed Riku's lips as he remembered the disaster that befell that store his first day. He had no idea how to ride roller blades, and couldn't keep his balance. Eventually he got the hang of it though. Now he has his own custom pair that match his clothes and hair color. Shaking his head, he turned to Namine again. He stared into her blue eyes and nearly got lost within them. For some reason, he felt as if he'd met her before. Well, outside of seeing her around school anyway.
"What about you? Do you work as well?"
Again, he wasn't trying to pry, but instead he was just trying to find out a little more about her. This girl interested his a bit, just like a few other students here at this school. Riku looked down at his cell phone to see how much time he had before he needed to leave for work. Since school had been out for only a little more than twenty minutes, he still had a bit of time to kill.

“Hmm,” Namine spoke. “You must live near me.”
She knew they lived close, because there was a Sonics near he apartment too. Coincidences weren’t even scaring her anymore since her run in with Roxas. No coincidence could ever be greater then that one. She wondered how many more people there were like them: how many lost there memories. It must’ve been a small amount. Everyone in the school and neighborhood seemed completely in control of who they were.
Sitting here just interacting with someone her own age was nice though. She didn’t get this chance very often. Not even the nerds and geeks, as the popular kids call them, liked to talk to her. She was even to different for them. The movies that showed everyone fitting in somewhere were wrong. Namine didn’t have a place anywhere. She was alone. It was something she had to get used to. For instance, Riku might talk to her today, but she won’t exist to him tomorrow. That’s just how it went. She was used to it.
“Work? No, I don’t currently have a job,” Namine responded.
The government welfare was good at paying for everything she needed for now. She didn’t want to push her look. If she got a job, welfare wouldn’t be an option. If she ended up on the streets again, all was lost. She’d be homeless. That was something she didn’t want to risk. She was content with the way she was living. I mean, sure, with the cost of school and everything she couldn’t go off and buy herself nice things or new clothes, but at least she got to eat. All she needed was her sketch pad and pencils, and she was happy. She was by new means materialistic. Namine was simply just a simple girl.

Riku started to believe that there was no coincidence with them living near each other. Perhaps, Namine was somehow connected to his past. He began to ponder upon that thought for a short moment, then stopped as Namine said she didn't have a job. He could understand how hard it was to get a decent paying job. His current job isn't exactly what he planned on doing for a long period of time.
"I never noticed that we lived close. I probably would have if I paid attention to my surroundings a little more."
His smile pushed through his face again and he turned to see two other boys trying to impress some girls. They were on skateboards, showing off with some cheap tricks. Riku sighed and turned his head to Namine. Shaking his head, he turned back to the boys. By this time, they were really close to the edge of the sidewalk. However it was too late. Both of the boys tumbled head over heels onto the pavement.
"Ok... That was just a shot in the dark."
Riku's eyes were wide and he chuckled as he spoke. He was pretty surprised at the event that unfolded before him yet he couldn't hold back his laughs. As most kids their age, they find it funny when someone else gets hurt. For some reason, a sharp pain warmed his left hand. It was somewhat like the pain in his chest, but it was a bit different. It felt as though it was on fire.
"Pretty soon I"ll have to go home to get ready for work. If you'd like, I could walk you home, unless you'd rather walk alone or if you're going somewhere else."

Namine smiled a little as Riku spoke of how close they lived. She never really paid much attention either. The only person she ever saw in the same apartment as her was the girl with the short, red hair. She was awfully pretty and Namine was a bit jealous every time she saw her. The girl seemed confident and sophisticated: only from what she saw of coarse. Namine wished she could be a bit more like a girl like her. She seemed flawless and angelic. Namine was a klutz and rather boring. All she ever did was draw. It was all she had in her life.
Almost giggling when she noticed the two boys fall off their skateboards, Namine quickly covered her mouth. She didn’t want to seem like a jerk, but she found it funny. If they wouldn’t have been huge show offs she might’ve had a little more compassion for them. However, they were just a couple of boys with one thing on their minds. Their thoughts weren’t diverse at all. Their brains obviously had no complexity to them.
Namine thought for a moment on Riku’s offer to walk her home. They were going to the same place so it would be sort of convenient. However, if she went home she’d have to sit by herself for another couple hours until it was time to go to sleep and repeat the same monotonous day all over again. Oh, well. Drawing at school or drawing at home, what was really the difference? At least at home she could grab a bite. Plus, she had company this way and she wouldn’t have to walk by herself. It’d all work out. But Riku wasn’t the kind of guy to be around people so she still wasn’t convinced that he actually wanted to. He might’ve been just saying it, expecting her to refuse.
“I’d like that,” she started. “But I don’t want to be a bother to you.”

"Oh no, no no! I wouldn't want to be a bother to you. I don't want to come off as like some sort of stalker, since we did just actually meet for the first time. You'd be no bother to me at all."
Riku smiled brightly and shook his hands side to side. Perhaps he was making progress with this absent minded life of his. He was sure that from this day forth, there would be a bit of interesting things events that may unfold with each passing day. As Riku stood up, he slowly stretched his arms and his back. He knelt down to pick up his things and stood beside Namine. He looked down at her drawings and became curious. He hadn't noticed before, and he felt a little dumb.
"I take it you like to draw?"
Riku believed that Namine was an artist, who drew pictures based on her surroundings, or perhaps even things from her mind. He felt a little bit more unintelligent for not being good at much in school. The main things he was good at was language arts and gym. He kind of felt like a book worm jock. He chuckled a little to himself at the thought.
Making sure he wouldn't be late, he looked at his cell phone to see the time. He had nearly an hour to get to work, and he decided there was enough time dilly dally and chat with Namine. He outstretched his right hand to Namine as to help her up as he smiled.
"You ready?"

“Are you sure it’s no bother?” Namine asked in a concerned voice.
This time she made sure to smile brightly as she spoke. She was happy that someone actually wanted to take time to do something with her: even if it was just as simple as walking her home. She was so bored lately. If she was lucky, he wouldn’t have to start work for a while and she could walk slowly just to savor the time. She laughed inside her head. Now she was getting a little ridiculous. If she walked slow, he’d probably get really annoyed.
“Draw? Yes, I love it,” Namine told with a little bit of excitement in her voice. “It’s my number one hobby.”
She was sort of glad that someone aside from Roxas actually took interest in her art work. Well, at least interest enough to ask about it. Most people just ignored it. No one really cared about who she was or what she did. It was nice to have someone notice something she liked for once. It made her feel important for some strange reason.
Namine smiled again when Riku held out his hand and then took it, allowing him to help her up. Even though he avoided people, Riku was sort of a gentlemen. There weren’t many people left like Riku anymore in this world. She’d once watched an old television show where sex and violence was extremely rare. Now it was everywhere in this crazy world. Although, Riku could be a gun-hoe for sex, violence, and possibly drugs and she’d never know it. She laughed a little bit at that thought.
“I’m ready,” Namine responded, still having that same smile on her face from before.
She liked walking. It was a great way to use energy without knocking yourself out of breath. Plus, Namine failed epically at any sport so it was just about the only thing she could do.
